Publisher's Synopsis
For many years I worked at a small college in the South-West of England, which addressed the environmental and spiritual crises of our time. It was in a large country house, and our next-door neighbours were a dairy farm and a poorly-attended Victorian church. We had almost no relationship with either. The dairy farmer was too busy, which was fair enough, but the church's doors were open. We seldom went there. In a way we didn't even see it. Therein lay the earliest origins of this book. I resolved to take a fresh look at the story.
