The present study is adaptation results of master's thesis, presented next to the Faculty of Architecture of University Technique of Lisboa (FAUTL), within the Architecture and Ambient Quality Master in Technology course, carried through enter 1993 to 1994. It essentially aims at to determine the historical reasons, understood in the period of the feeding of the Portuguese economy, for the gold derived from the Brazil colony, and function viability in the use, that they had led to the preference in the adoption of the lioz limestone, to make face to the features of the environment in LMA (Lisboa Metropolitan Area), it points precautions similarly to have in its use and constructive application. Having as base the selection of four localities for samples, displayed to the sea, in urban and rural area, identifying to the pathologies and reasons of its development, also supplying indications to oppose them. Finishing with the establishment of a level of importance balance to give, in its physical and chemical properties, in the direction to provide a method of selection of this type of stone, in the substitution in existing buildings, taking off advantage of these parameters to serve at the same time, in the selection of the lioz limestone, in the construction of new buildings. Such as curiosities provided or benefits that can be obtained with the properties of limestone and in obtaining this type of stone artificially.
