"How did you sleep?" he asked softly. My head was grateful for his quiet tone, but his voice seemed to reverberate inside of me, filling my body with the sound. It warmed me and made me relax even more. I did not know how he managed to have this effect on my body, but at least I knew that he would not hurt me.
"Well, I don't really remember falling asleep, and then this pounding headache when I woke up. Thank you for the ibuprofen and breakfast. I can't remember the last time someone cooked for me. It's really good and I was starving," I managed to say. He chuckled again and I blushed. When I was nervous, I usually talked too much.
"Sasha, we need to talk. About us," he said next, and I slowly raised my eyes to meet his, the fork frozen in the air halfway to my mouth and my mouth was hanging open. I quickly closed it.
Maybe I hadn't heard him correctly. Us? There was no "us". I had not even gotten the hot sex that I had come here for. There was no way it was happening now that I was sober. Those drinks had definitely lowered my inhibition, but now I was thinking clearly. Except for the pounding headache.
Us? Did he seriously just say that? So, I came home with him last night. It was his fault that he put me in a separate bedroom from where he had slept. Breakfast was good, and the coffee was just what I had needed. Did he think I had money and that a relationship with me meant reverse rolls for us? He would just stay home and cook and clean while I worked? I almost choked at the thought. There was definitely no "us".
"What do you mean by 'us'?" I finally managed to ask hesitantly. Maybe this guy was some deranged psychopath after all, and I had let him bring me to his house. I didn't even know where this house was, and I had no transportation to leave on my own. A chill ran down my spine as I realized that if he wanted to rape me, I would be unable to stop him. There was no way I was having sex with him willingly.
"Sasha, I know you feel it. The bond. You have to know that we are mates," he said next.
The fork instantly dropped from my hands and clattered against the plate. I quickly stood from the table. Taking two steps back, I looked towards the front door, wondering if I could get outside before he caught up with me. Maybe, if I could get outside, I could scream loud enough that someone would hear me and help me. Looking back at him, I noticed that his face suddenly took on a fierce expression and I took another step back.
"Sasha, don't try and run from me. My wolf will always be able to find you," he said. His words were gentle but stern and commanding. Suddenly, his words registered in my head. His wolf! I saw flashes of light around me and then the room began to spin. I heard Devon call my name and then there was only darkness.
