Born of an Irish father and Cherokee mother, Isaiah McCall, spent his earlier years on a reservation, learning from his Cherokee heritage and honing both his hunting and tracking skills. Then, when the War Between the States began, his father moved the family to Kansas and out of the conflict.Isaiah spent his youth hunting to provide meat for his family, with extra to sell, along with pelts, to neighbors. When he decided to take off to earn his own keep, he used his expertise as a hunter to make his living. Isaiah had hunted and killed many different animals throughout his life, but when a beast like no other began to hunt and kill miners panning for gold along a creek, Isaiah's hunting and tracking skills would be put to the test. Figuring it was a sick bear attacking the miners, Isaiah was not prepared for what he would track down and find in the mountain wilderness.
