In the city of Ystwryth, the pre-eminent power of the Dwarven Highlands, the struggle between Owain, the High-King's most trusted friend and Manawydan, the High-King's brutal and power-hungry son, is coming to a head. As the Highlands becomes embroiled in a bloody civil war the persecuted vala, Dwarven female users of the power, come under the notice of the godar witch-finders once more.
