The novel tells the life of William 'Bill' Tilgman (1854-1924), the most infamous lawman in the history of the West. He was the one man many historians expressed was the greatest lawman of the Wild West period because he arrested more dangerous men, shattered more outlaw gangs, and jailed more criminals than any other peace officer of his era. From an infant through his stops on the prairie as a buffalo hunter, in Dodge City as a lawman, to Oklahoma territory where he was a Deputy U.S. Marshal to his unfortunate death in tone of the last boomtowns of the West, Cromwell, Oklahoma.
