The novel tells the life of William 'Bill' Tilgman (1854-1924), the most infamous lawman in the history of the West. From an infant through his stops on the prairie as a buffalo hunter, in Dodge City as a lawman, to Oklahoma territory where he was a Deputy U.S. Marshal to his unfortunate death in tone of the last boomtowns of the West, Cromwell, Oklahoma.
