Publisher's Synopsis
Fifteen years ago, when he was sixteen years old, Wade Ralston's parents were killed by Indians, and he moved in with the Baker family. Living with the Baker's, he established a warm friendship with Jesse Baker, a slightly younger boy. Robert Baker was accused of rustling cattle and lynched by seven vigilantes. After her husband's death, Mrs. Baker sold the spread and moved back East to be with her son and daughter. Both Jesse Baker and Wade Ralston recognized some of the masked vigilantes and swore someday they would make them pay for the lynching. Rather than going East with the Baker's, Wade drifted to Texas, where he became a Texas Ranger known as Reb Ralston. A few years after the war, the Boston lawyer for Wade's wealthy Eastern relatives finally located Wade. While in Boston, he learns that one of the two owners of the Big C wants to sell his half of the ranch. Realizing this is the opportunity to return and settle scores with the men responsible for the lynching, he purchases half ownership.
