A year has passed since Cassius received the devastating news that his lover, Numeria, was leaving him for a new life in Greece. Whilst his own personal status has been elevated to the exalted rank of Roman Senator, Cassius gleans little satisfaction from his position as he struggles to come to terms with losing her.

His errant lifestyle once again finds him in trouble - but this time it may have deadly consequences, as he incurs the wrath of Livia, wife of Augustus.
