Publisher's Synopsis
OCTOBER 1694 - The Eastern Shore of Colonial Maryland
Strange lights in the sky, dark forms in the swamps, the disappearance of a local pastor, and an alarmed populace compel the Governor to send represenatives to investigate the matter - and ensure that the witch hunt which so recently happened in Salem, Massachusetts, is not repeated on the Maryland coast. The young Pastor Henry Hollowood, and veteran soldier Alexander Corby, are dispatched to determine the cause of the disturbances, and put them to rest. Both men have been sent under threat, but Corby harbors a secret which not only makes him subject to the government's predetermined conclusions, but also makes him the target of a unrelenting bounty hunter from Massachusetts. What Hollowood and Corby discover in their investigation exceeds what they have been authorized to conclude - and how they respond will determine their ultimate fates.
