(THE FINAL LESSON)

Omaledo is still in the hands of her kidnappers. Mazi Dikoro and his men had to battle throughout the night to enter Latume village and get to the kidnappers before they reached Abari town where they wanted to sell Omaledo off as a slave. They succeeded in rescuing Omaledo and took her back to Kokosi village to her mother.

Still, Omaledo did not stop her disobedience. Four weeks later, despite the fact that her mother had warned her to stop going to people's fruit orchard to pluck their fruits, Omaledo still disobeyed her and went to Mazi Obika's fruit orchard to pluck mangoes. She was caught red handed and given severe beating by the owner of the orchard. Two weeks later, despite her mother's warning that the evil forest is the abode of wild animals and man-eaters, Omaledo went to the evil forest to pluck wild fruits. She was almost devoured by a lion but was saved by a hunter.

Three months later, Mama Oma woke up with a premonition that something bad was about to happen, but she did not know what it was. Before going to the village market to sell her goods, she told Omaledo and Nwugo not to go out to play or fetch firewood. She specifically told them not to go to river Osi to bathe or fetch water.

Omaledo disobeyed her mother and went to river Osi to bathe and fetch water. There, she dared the goddess of the river and was almost consumed. What happened at river Osi? Omaledo is now lame, deaf and dumb, all caused by her disobedience of her mother's instructions not to go to river Osi to bathe and fetch water. She not only went to river Osi, she also dared the river goddess who would have killed her if not for God's mercy. Unable to kill Omaledo, she had given Omaledo a severe beating, broken her two knees and placed a curse on her that she would be deaf and dumb forever.

Her mother Mama Oma took Omaledo to a popular local bone specialist called Dibia Tasie who treated Omaledo and her fractured kneecap healed completely after six months. When Omaledo started walking again, Mama Oma spent a lot of money taking Omaledo to different native doctors in different villages to heal her and make it possible for her to talk and hear again without success. Omaledo remained deaf and dumb. It was a native doctor in Abante village called Dibia Atuma who told Mama Oma that the goddess of river Osi had placed a curse on Omaledo which could not be reversed; that Omaledo would remain deaf and dumb forever.
