Publisher's Synopsis
An unusual word for an unusual locale. Many people, in fact, may not immediately recognise the word, although as soon as Rhodes is singled out, most people will respond positively. But this is ironic, since Rhodes was not actually a member of the original Dodecannese, while many people have quite specific links with two of the Dodecannese -- Kos and Patmos -- not to mention the fact that one of the roots of the word, dodeka, is one of the first Greek words everyone learns because it means 'twelve', although in fact there are more than twelve islands in Dodecannese, which in any case were long known as the Southern Sporades. About the only thing that can simply be said is that they are a group of beautiful and interesting Greek islands in the eastern Aegean.
