Publisher's Synopsis
This volume presents a complete medieval Latin translation of Aristotle's "Metaphysics", the so-called "Nova Translatio". Three former versions, the "Translatio Iacobi" (or "Vetustissima"), the "Translatio Composita" (or "Vetus"), both of them containing no more than Books I-IV.4, and the "Translatio Anonyma" (or "Media"), in which Book XI is missing, have already been edited in this series. The "Nova Translatio" is partly a revision of the "Translatio Anonyma" (Book XI but also the greater part of XIII and the whole of XIV), carried out by Flemish Dominican William of Moerbeke in the 13th century. In the preface to the edition, the various problems related to this important work are unfolded and clarified.;The edition itself is followed by a most complete Greek-Latin and Latin-Greek index. Both in the edited text and the indexes the elements that stem from Moerbeke, either from his earlier or from his definite draft, are carefully distinguished from those that are borrowed from the "Translatio Anonyma"; moreover, the translator's corrections are compared with his Latin as well as his main Greek model.
