Publisher's Synopsis

The Intruder describes in detail the working conditions in the Basque iron mines in the Triano region. The novel is, perhaps, Ibanez's most political work. The protagonist is Luis Aresti, described in similar terms as the doctor Areilza, is a medical doctor at the mining hospital of Triano. Here are related the social conflicts that shaped the modern Biscay and confronted the former Carlists, who were affiliated with the recently founded nationalist party and supported by the Jesuits of Deusto, with the mining proletariat and blast furnaces which were left among the liberal bourgeoisie.
