When his mother died in a terrible train accident, Alaric Underwood's life began to fall apart. Two years later, at age 16, he still hasn't been able to get over the loss of his mother. However, on the anniversary of the accident, Alaric stumbles into an alternate reality—one in which his mother survived the accident. The problem is that, in this reality, he no longer exists. Instead, a girl named Naia has taken his place, living the life that was meant to be his.
