Publisher's Synopsis
In the years between the wars, an ocean liner, the Virginian, travelled the route between Europe and America carrying millionaires, tourists and immigrants. On board the Virginian an extraordinary pianist called Novecento played every night with marvellous technique, capable of hitting magical notes that had never been heard before. They spoke of this rare pianists sorrow as much as that of Jelly Roll Morton, the inventor of Jazz. They said the melancholic pianist was born on the boat, which he had never in his life disembarked. They said nobody knew why.
