Publisher's Synopsis
Meg and Sylvie Townsend run their family's bookstore and take care of their father, Stephen, who has both physical and emotional scars from the Civil War. The great Chicago fire destroys their store and the sisters get separated from Stephen. When the flames are extinguished, the girls discover that their friend has been murdered and their father has been accused of the crime! Homeless, jobless, and with an injured sister, Meg must try and prove her father's innocence.
