Publisher's Synopsis
This is a short story about ideals and realities. Actress Kaye Gonda, as the embodiment of perfection, is held as a unique belief by all, and her admirers have projected their own trust on Kaye; when Kaye is deep in the midst of rumors of murder and in need of help from reality, she defects to six of her fans in succession, who have all written to Gonda passionately, claiming that she is the supreme ideal of their lives. However, the husband who fantasizes about escaping reality succumbs to his wife and throws Gonda out; the farmer who is about to lose his house to poverty sells Gonda to the police for a bounty; the painter who has achieved greatness refuses to believe that Gonda will ever come into his life; the cleric who has been ostracized by his peers forces Gonda to go to God to confess her sins in order to win back his congregation; the rich and downtrodden man who covets Gonda's beauty; the destitute and downtrodden man who has nothing left to lose, but who has only been expelled from the world, is forced to go to God to confess her sins. Johnny Dawes, a downtrodden man with nothing to lose, gives his life for it! Mankind and the Ideal are either with it or apart!
