The paranasal sinuses are air-filled cavities of the craniofacial complex composed of the maxillary, frontal, sphenoid sinuses and ethmoid air cells. They are four on each side. Out of these paranasal sinuses only maxillary and ethmoid sinuses are present at birth and maxillary sinus is the first sinus to develop. Maxillary sinus also called as antrum of Highmore lies in the body of maxilla and it is the largest of all paranasal sinuses. The diseases of the sinuses may mimic odontogenic diseases and odontogenic diseases may spread to the sinuses or mimic sinus disease.
