Publisher's Synopsis
Aside from prose, verse writing was for Juan Jos Arreola an intermittent activity, even ancillary, but the curious reader will find sonnets and not a few tenths of remarkable invoice, where almost always the authors playful and abysmal spirit stands out. Arreola did not intend to paint in a professional way; painting was more like a kind of therapy to temper his anguish and obsessions, to liberate his demons and fantasies. Similar to his intertextual conception of literature, in his watercoloring we appreciate a pictorial space that is intervened by quotations of books and hints to other paintings, and by writing as an element within art.
