This book examines the influence of attachment between mother and child on preschoolers' prosocial interactions with their mothers and peers. The author offers a thorough review of previous research on attachment security and children's empathy and helping of mothers and peers. After reviewing previous literature, the author describes research she conducted that gathered data from mothers, preschoolers, and teachers to better understand the effect of children's relationships with their mothers on their relationships with their mothers and peers. Limitations to the research and suggestions for future research are included.
