Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Politik - Internationale Politik - Thema: Frieden und Konflikte, Sicherheit, Note: 1,0, Helmut-Schmidt-Universitat - Universitat der Bundeswehr Hamburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Seit den Anschlagen auf das World Trade Center im Jahre 2001 hat sich die Welt verandert. Wahrend der ersten Monate nach dem schrecklichen Ereignis in New York wuchs die Zahl an Publikationen uber den Begriff des Terrorismus enorm. Die standigen negativen Nachrichten aus dem Nahen und Mittleren Osten haben unsere Aufnahmefahigkeit in groem Mae abgestumpft. "Das Schlagwort Terrorismus schreckt niemanden mehr ab." Doch auch wenn das Thema scheinbar ausgeschopft wirkt, das eigentliche Phanomen Terrorismus wird durch die offentliche Debatte eher verschleiert als entschlusselt. Dieser allgemeinen Verwirrung leisten vornehmlich einzelne Politiker und Medien Vorschub, indem sie "Terrorismus" nicht eindeutig von anderen Formen politischer Gewalt abgrenzen bzw. sich die notwendige Differenzierung sparen. Die vorliegende Arbeit unternimmt den Versuch das Phanomen Terrorismus naher zu beschreiben. Daher wurde ein deskriptiver Ansatz gewahlt. Der erste Teil der Arbeit befasst sich mit dem Problem einer Definition, die den Begriff greifbarer machen soll, denn obschon der Terrorismus keine neue Erscheinungsform ist, so gibt es eine Vielzahl an Definitionen. Insbesondere die Abgrenzung zu anderen Formen der Gewalt, wie etwa Krieg, Guerilla oder organisierte Kriminalitat ist in diesem Zusammenhang unerlasslich, um ein klareres Bild zu konstruieren. Diesbezuglich ist es unverzichtbar einen uberblicksartigen Exkurs in die Geschichte des Terrorismus zu unternehmen. Allein dadurch zeigt sich die enorme Wandlungsfahigkeit des Begriffes. Zusatzlich soll diese Arbeit Antworten auf die Frage nach den Motiven und Zielen, sowie den Mitteln und dem Instrumentarium, dessen sich Terroristen allgemein bedienen, geben.
