Publisher's Synopsis

Life processes proceed mainly within the complicated assemblies of molecules rather than in free solution. The reactions occurring in biological aggregates are equivalent to reactions inside micelles. Organic reactions in micelles are known to be interesting. This book describes our attempt to use micellar media for the first time to mimic the biological electron-transfer and dioxygen activation by metalloproteins. The electron-transfer properties and catecholase activities of copper(II) complexes and catechol dioxygenase activities of biomimetic iron(III) complexes have been successfully studied in micellar media. This book is useful to PG students doing advance courses in Coordination Chemistry as well as Reactions in Micelles. The solution structures of the complexes in different micellar media have been assessed using Electronic Absorption and EPR spectroscopy and Electrochemistry and the results have been well documented. Absorption spectroscopy has been used also to follow the kinetics of the biomimetic reactions. Structures of new metal complexes, selected figures and suitable references are provided.
