Religion and Science: terms briefly explained (In this thesis, I am concerned with natural sciences as well as Hindu and Islam as religion) Religion and science are two major sources that have guided mankind from historical time. Both of them have greatly influenced all aspects of human life. In certain cases both religion and science have looked into those problems and clashes that need urgent attention. There is a popular belief that religion and science are two basically opposite poles. There are several definitions of religion, which imply a relationship not merely between men and men, but also between man and some moral power that attempts to find out the ways for human perfection. Some definitions have pointed out that whenever and wherever man has a sense of dependence on external moral powers which are conceived as mysterious as and higher than man's own, there is religion. The feeling of awe and self-abasement with which man is filled in the presence of such mysterious powers is essentially a religions emotion, the root of worship and prayer. The internal aspect of religion is the body of ideas, convictions and emotions concerning man's relations with God, while its external aspect is the system of prayers, ceremonies and rites through which the religious feeling is manifested. On the other hand science has a different method and different definition. Many scientists believe that science is applied to solving modern problems of technological and humanistic nature. The question of whether religion is compatible with science has occupied a prominent place in the discussions of the nineteenth century and some thinkers have held the view that science and religion are incompatible.
