The Illinois 36th Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Hammond, near Aurora, September 23, 1861, The Regiment numbered 965 officers and enlisted men, and had two companies of Cavalry. The regiment participated in most all the major battles of the western theater beginning with the battle of Pea Ridge including Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin and Nashville. The Regiment lost during service 11 Officers and 193 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 1 Officer and 127 Enlisted men by disease. Total 332. Companies of the Illinois 36th Infantry Regiment: Company A - Cook and Kane counties Company B - Kane County Company C - Warren and Lawrence counties Company D - Kendall County Company E - Kendall County Company F - Kane and Kendall counties Company G - Grundy County Company H - McHenry County Company I - Kendall County Company K - DuPage and Kane counties
