Publisher's Synopsis
The poems in this anthology have been selected to show how sixty-five poets over four centuries have portrayed the eternal themes of love, beauty, life and death. The poets represented are English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, American, French and German. There are poems by famous poets such as Ronsard, Shakespeare, Goethe and Byron, and others by lesser poets such as Ludwig Rellstab and Henri Cazalis. All of the poems are in English, with freely adapted verse translations of the French and German poems.
