Layers of Learning Unit 4-18 starts with the history of civil rights around the world. Then in geography start a study of your own state. The explorations in this unit can be applied to any state. This unit focuses on history, symbols, and landmarks. In science learn about instincts including migration, hibernation, animal colors, and environmental stimuli. Last play with theater and film as you learn about the history of theater and film, do acting games, create a set, learn about acting jobs and parts of the stage, write a script, and act in your own play. In each unit you'll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer's Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips. Printable maps and worksheets are included at the end of each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
