Dani and Ranae have a unique friendship. As a midwife, Dani ushers in new life at Breathe Birthing Center, while Ranae, a mortician, tends to the dead at Fair Havens Green Cemetry. They are each experts at helping their respective clients transition into and out of this world.

In their personal lives, however, things aren't so simple.

Dani's doing everything she can to keep things together, but her happily ever after is unraveling around her. When someone she's never met - but with a face she'd recognize anywhere - starts asking some hard questions, Dani discovers she's ill-equipped to take on yet another emotional challenge in her life.

Ranae's well-intentioned meddling only makes matters worse.

Ranae has grown accustomed to wanting what she can't have, including the love of a good man. When a ghost from the past comes knocking, offering her everything that's been denied her for so long, Ranae isn't sure she's willing - or able - to take down the walls she's so carefully constructed around her heart.

Then Dani spills Ranae's closely-held secret to the worng person.
