Prologue: Patricia R. Smith is a sixty-five-year old woman, educated in one of the top-rated universities in France, sophisticated, poised, beautiful and well-mannered. She is the editor of an African American magazine and resides in Atlanta, Georgia. A member of high society in her city, she is practical in her approach to life and in her business affairs.
