A silvery glow like moonlight filtered down the stairs, but as they advanced, Nelson could see that the light rippled, as though shining down through water. Things seemed to move at the edge of his vision, and he felt something tiny and soft brush against his hand. He drew back momentarily, then forged on toward the stairs.The rippling light intensified for a moment, and suddenly a swarm of - something - zoomed down the stairs. Joanie let out a yelp as they were surrounded by tiny hovering lights that buzzed and flitted around their heads. "Fireflies?" he wondered aloud."Not in this part of the country," Joanie replied. "Oh, criminy, Nelson, look at them! Look!""I'm looking, but I don't believe it!"As though getting used to a new blended family, a new school, and a new nosy stepsister weren't enough problems on his plate, now Nelson has to face a boring family vacation at some run-down old lodge with no cell phones or Wi-Fi.
