Publisher's Synopsis

Twelve-year-old David Johnson agreed to be the Bearer of the Golden Orb and begin his hero training two months ago, but so far the spirit of the Orb hasn't responded. To make matters worse, he receives a mysterious prophecy that he will soon need his powers, but David has no idea how to make them show up.

David's best friend, a girl named Jessie Jenkins, is growing blue roots as a science project. But Jessie's plants aren't acting very plant-like, they give off sparks of energy and zap her fingers making them glow blue. Next, pictures of a blue lagoon start popping up on her computer. But, Jessie's plants also don't remain silent. They tell her she needs to return them to their home, a village that's hidden deep in the rainforest.

A trip to Costa Rica puts David and Jessie in the middle of a mystery concerning ancient blue masks of power and involve them with the legend of the blue skull. The danger increases when David and Jessie must save the Dellamata Azul village from thieves trying to steal their priceless treasures. While at the same time and at all costs, they must find a way to complete the ceremony that will return precious blue water to the lagoon and bring life back to the valley.
