Publisher's Synopsis
To the Rescue A Passion for Pit Bulls
by Connie Bowman
Pit bulls are my only passion in life. Growing up, I always felt ridiculed and misunderstood, like I didn't belong. I see myself in pit bulls. I am able to empathize with them, and in many ways, they remind me of myself. They have taught me to be a better person, to live in the moment, to forgive completely, to love unconditionally.
I rescued my first pit bull about twenty years ago. At that time I never even heard of a pit bull. Since then, I have fallen head over heels madly in love with and have been rescuing them ever since.
Rescuing has many rewards. From watching them transform from being terrified into learning how to play-and knowing that it's okay. Holding them in my arms and finally feeling their bodies slowly relax. When I can get a dog out of a bad place and look deep into their sad eyes, I know they are thanking me.
I rescue because I feel that I owe it to them for the countless times that they rescued me. I believe it is my mission, my calling. It is what God put me here to do. It is my purpose in life. There are so many who need help and deserve a second chance at a life filled with love, happiness, compassion, and understanding...for they have filled my life with the same.
Connie Bowman
Author Connie Bowman was born an animal lover. Ever since she was very young, she wanted to give back to the animals the unconditional love that they gave to her. Connie learned how to rescue from the many times the animals rescued her from her sorrow, her pain, her fears, herself, and from others.
Pit bulls easily won her heart and became her passion. She has over two decades invested in rescuing and advocating for pit bulls independently-and has vowed to continue until her dying day.
"I have always loved animals, and at a very young age, I experienced the physical and even worse, the emotional pain that people can inflict upon each other. But...animals never caused me pain. So, in my mind, I created my own little world, and in my world, there were animals and me. If I was hurting or sad or lonely, that's where I'd always go and always found comfort-that's where the animals rescued me. It was at a young age that I knew I wanted to give back to them what they so willingly gave to me, genuine unconditional love. For me, life without animals would be no life at all.
"In 1993, I discovered a brand new love and a very deep passion for a particular breed of dog...the American Pit Bull Terrier.
"My prayer in writing this book is to bring awareness and education. To not only open one's eyes but to open one's mind. To change the negative myths into the positive facts. If I can accomplish this, I'll know that I am fighting a good fight for my beloved Pit Bull Breed.
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
