The struggle continues as the Ellendor Trader Clan aids Claire in her return to the Palace at Lumminea. While she is traveling across the White Desert, Pem sets out from the capitol, determined to rescue Claire and bring her gifts. He hopes, in spite of warnings to the contrary, to persuade her to marry him in order for him to become King. The rescuer becomes the hunted as Pem joins up with Claire and the Trader Landship in time to avert an immediate disaster. But sure death lies ahead on the River Lorne.
