AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY: Weltner grew up in northern New Jersey and piedmont North Carolina. Manhattan was the holy city of his youth. He received a PhD from Indiana University and taught English Renaissance, British, Irish, and American literature at San Francisco State University for 37 years.
