Blackdeath 23 is a true account based on the daily journal of a US Army Cavalry Scout helicopter pilot during Operation Iraqi Freedom OIF. It details many of the daily experiences as a pilot and soldier in a war zone. Robert Mills was an OH58 Kiowa Warrior Cavalry Scout helicopter pilot from 2003 through 2009. Having entered the Army on September 11th, 2001, he walks the reader through his experiences beginning as a civilian. Robert was assigned to Outlaw Troop of 4th Squadron 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment from 2003-2005 and Blackdeath Troop of the 4th Squadron 6th Air Cavalry Squadron from 2005-2009. Robert served two combat tours to Iraq in 2004 & 2007-2008, flying 1250 flight hours in the war zone. Blackdeath 23 is written as a journal and contains entries pertaining to all aspects of the life of the author. The first half of Blackdeath 23 details the author's enlistment, training, and first combat deployment. The second half journals experiences in northern Iraq during a hostile time. Robert deployed for his second tour in 2007 as an experienced and combat tested veteran.
