Publisher's Synopsis

This book charts the development and expansion of the Norwegian cruise company Fred Olsen. This publication also looks at the current fleet of ships operated. It has an outstanding wealth of views of the ships both internally and externally. It also contains the fleet list. Throughout the years, the Norwegian family-owned Fred Olsen Cruise Line has become synonymous with global cruising in a leisurely and comfortable yet essentially British setting. Their fleet of cruise ships has been both thoughtfully and well selected and has greatly benefited from extensive and careful periods of refitting which has produced a series of ships that are well tried and tested and yet offer the travelling public all the modern comforts and traditional delights expected of cruise travel in the twenty-first century. It briefly describes the company's Norwegian origins and their entry into the North Sea passenger trades at the start of the twentieth century. Latterly they have been involved in trade across the Strait of Gibraltar and the operation of fast ferries in the Canaries. The bulk of the book is dedicated to the five cruise ships which have contributed towards Olsen's success. It is profusely illustrated with recently taken photographs giving the reader something of the special flavour experienced on board this fascinating fleet.
