'The Owlers' is based on a true event which took place in January 1784 in Deal, Kent. Boats are being smuggled, and James goes in search of his father, who is missing, and becomes caught up in the battle as the townsfolk try to prevent the Dragoons and a regiment of infantry from burning the 'luggers'.
