There is continued debate as to whether or not new babies are able to distinguish colour, but it is agreed that they are drawn to high contrast images. These simple books are specially developed to interest a baby and they respond to these books from birth. - BabyShapes one and two, use very simple (through to more complex) bold graphic shapes. BabyShapes three consists of a range of faces and facial expressions. New babies may copy some of the expressions. The books bring the parents and their new baby together in a shared visual experience, nurturing the important beginnings of reading and turning the pages of a book.
