Publisher's Synopsis
In 1977 the 16-year-old Billy Childish purposely smashed his own hand with a 3lb club hammer and walked out of his job as an apprentice stone mason. Over the following 3 years he was accepted no less than four times into art schools - continually at odds with the bureaucracy, however, he was just as frequently booted out. Since 1984, Childish has been producing woodcuts under the name of Bill Hamper, which have adorned the covers of his books and records and exhibited the world over as works of art. An overview of 22 years worth of exceptional woodcuts.
