Publisher's Synopsis

This portfolio of plans and photos is intended to provide visual reference to all those weapons whose workings are open to view û omitting those in closed turrets but including shielded and open gun mounts, torpedo tubes and anti-submarine weapons carried on deck. This will be of value principally to modelmakers seeking detail and accuracy but for enthusiasts and historians it also provides a convenient single-volume compendium of weapons data and an aid to identification. - - Within these parameters, its coverage is comprehensive, with each weapon accorded both multi-view scale plans and photographs, often backed with a description and tabular dimensions and performance details. With a few exceptions for which no information survives, all main armament for destroyer-size ships and downwards is included, along with open mounts and AA guns carried by larger ships. Significant differences in mountings are treated to separate drawings, and for completeness the book also includes significant older weapons brought out of storage and fitted to a host of small and auxiliary ships. - - In total nearly a hundred separate subjects are included, illustrated with 200 photos and around 1000 individual drawings, reflecting the amazing variety of weapons employed by the Royal Navy during the Second World War. -
