Publisher's Synopsis
When World War II breaks out Shummy and her family leave their native London to stay with her Aunt Dolly and Uncle Ross in Suffolk. To a seven-year-old, country life is strange but she soon becomes involved with village life, attending the school, playing with her cousin Jasmine and making friends with their neighbours, especially Miss Rumbelow - known to Shummy as Auntie Rum. Just a few miles away are Grandad and Nanna, proprietors of the Buck Inn. The quiet pace of country life is a stark contrast to their life in London, where the Battle of Britain is raging.
