Publisher's Synopsis
How on earth did a gynaecologist and obstetrician end up as a serving Medical Officer in the very much all-male Royal Navy of the 1950s? Surgeon Lieutenant Ronald Bedford is an amiable and talented doctor but completely incompetent on the drill square. His naval career includes causing his Surgeon Commander's head to turn blue, and re-enacting the Grand National around the wardroom with the Padre as odds-on favourite. Ronald Bedford resolves his fellow officers' problems with a blend of medicine, humour and commonsense until he chats up the Commander-in-Chief's daughter and realises he has met the love of his life.
