As the cattle season in Ellsworth, Kansas comes to an end, Tansy Granger and her friends try to decide what to do next. Molly Harker receives a letter from her friend Trixie in Deadwood, Dakota Territories, and she offers them work in her boss, Al Swearingen's Gem Theatre. Some wonder what he'd want with them in a theatre, but Tansy knows he is looking for whores not stage performers. When a Pinkerton Agent shows up in Ellsworth looking for Linda Martin, Tansy knows it's time to move on. Lil, the madam at the Ellsworth House helps Tansy to slip out of town with a friend for Butte but the Pinkerton catches up with them in Denver. They give him the slip again and get to Deadwood with the help of Calamity Jane where they join the employ of Al Swearingen. Tansy and Molly do their best to impress the man and Tansy becomes an unlikely partner in his business.
