Simon Jones is a seventeen-year-old college student whose life is warm and comfortable. However, the life of his best friend, James Huang, couldn't be any more different. Living with an abusive and alcoholic father, James faces the cruel and harsh underside of life. Not liking to see his friend hurt, Simon vows to defend him. By fate or fortune, his wish is granted in the form of a mysterious ring, and it doesn't take him long to find that there is more to it than meets the eye.
Bestowed with power that he could never fathom, Simon exacts vengeance on James's father. Initially satisfied with the deed, Simon comes to realize that there are wider implications to his fateful decision. Only desiring to defend his friend, Simon finds himself embroiled in a radical new reality, as well as being pitted against one of the seedy underworld's most infamous crime bosses.
