Publisher's Synopsis
Horror hits the heartland.
A cult murder in a farm town instigates a chain of events that would forever change two families. Joe and Roger witness the killing and notify the police. Cops rebuff the teens when they cannot find the victim's body.
Decades later, the friends moved on and built families and farms of their own. Joe's eldest daughter Cassie and Robert's son Matt navigate a complicated relationship while planning their transition from high school to college. All against the backdrop of strange sinkholes appearing throughout the town.
When Cassie's mother vanishes, it upends the teens' plans. The lone witness, Cassie's younger sister, swears monsters were responsible. The police have other ideas, naming Joe as the suspect. To prove Joe's innocence and find the missing mother, the two families come together to investigate the disappearance.
Their hunt reveals that something grew alongside their crops for years. Something evil, something deadly, something not of this earth. The cult murder seeded a blood crop which finally bore fruit. As evil blossoms, first comes the reaping, then comes the weeping.
When bodies fall, the families question how they can save their missing loved one if they cannot even save themselves. Meanwhile, the answers to the disappearance exist underfoot in soil hiding both secrets and creatures hungry for blood.
Evil grows on their farm and its roots run deep.
