A Guide to Test of Orals has been written to meet the needs of students, teachers and everyone who is interested in phonetics. It is a textbook that provides an easy guide to answering oral English questions. While that is important for excelling in any examination that tests students on orals, the author also feels a need to provide a text that helps to acquire correct speech habits and skills so as to be proficient in oral communication.The book is structured into eight chapters, covering sounds and stress which are basically the areas of examination focus in most examination bodies that test students on orals. Chapter one focuses on all the sounds associated with the letters of the English alphabet. Chapter two discusses each of the English vowels. Chapter three focuses on each of the diphthongs. Chapter four treats all the English consonants. Chapter five discusses the consonant clusters found in words. Chapter six deals with rhymes. Chapter seven focuses on stress. From chapters two to seven, there are several exercises that are provided to help you gain a mastery of each of the topics. Also, explanatory answers are provided just after each exercise. Finally, chapter eight presents questions to test students' intelligence quotient (IQ) in the area of phonetics.
