This is a story of Erik's journey during the time he spent in The Gambia. It shows all the facets of the life of a young development worker. Erik has had a turbulent time recently. Suddenly, he got the opportunity to go to Gambia, an unknown country where everything is different. His diary recounts the challenges he experienced in Gambia: his work as an ICT Specialist, living together with people, and dealing with cultural differences like religion and his sexuality. It focuses on his empathy with catchy, poignant, humorous, and intimate personal insights and experiences. Erik van der Heijden was born in 1984 and currently lives in England. He has worked until 2008 as an ICT specialist. In 2011, he was tasked to work on projects in The Gambia and Senegal by the foundation, Go For Africa. Although he actually retired from ICT, he decided to use his skills and knowledge one more time to assist the schools, hospitals, and institutions of Africa in their ICT plans and needs.
