Publisher's Synopsis

"227 years later... I have always been a patriot. My grandparents came to America from Poland and Russia over one hundred years ago, enduring the rigors of Ellis Island and settling in New Jersey. All were hardworking immigrants working to the day they died, providing for their families. My grandmother told the story of how during the Depression, in order to save their house from foreclosure, she moved her family and my disabled grandfather into the basement and rented out the rooms in the house to factory workers. The workers each paid five dollars a week for complete room and board, including laundry. My mother tells of how during this period, she and her sisters would walk along the railroad tracks and pick up pieces of coal for cooking and heating the house. My grandparents endured the rigors of the world wars, the Great Depression, and the beginnings of the Great Society, of which the progressives are so proud. I represent three generations of military service: my father served during World War II and Korea, my service was during the Vietnam War, and my son served in Iraq."
