Survival tells what it takes to survive childhood mental and sexual abuse, and how it can drastically change a child's life. A little girl being sexually abused believes she has no one to turn to or anyone who would believe her. But this quiet and shy child overcomes the odds against her after being raped. She comes up with the strength to survive and is filled with the purpose to change her life. The girl grew up in a large family in the early 1970s, when sexual abuse was a well-kept secret and was not spoken about publicly. The author says it's important to find someone you can trust to talk to. "You must not give up on yourself, but fight for the right to survive. By believing you are strong enough, with the will to fight, tell someone. Don't give up and don't be afraid." Glendora Edward was born in Vieux-fort, St. Lucia, where she still lives with her family. She volunteers as a counselor for abused women and children. It was time to write this book "when I saw so many children being abused and the need for them to know that they are not alone and should fight for the right to be safe. It was a heartbreaking experience to write this book, because trying to come up with the words that I needed to do so, knowing it would wake up old wounds for some was difficult.
