Since 2002 MathWorks has followed a twice-yearly general release schedule (with an "a" release in the March timeframe and a "b" release in the September timeframe) introducing new functions, features, concepts, and toolboxes. It is impossible to fully describe all the functions of MATLAB®, or keep pace every new software release, in one book. However, being a proficient applied programmer means knowing the basics and understanding a variety of available resources so that, if needed, knowledge in certain areas can be built up fast, or new topics can be quickly incorporated. This book is intended to provide the user with exactly this type of firm grounding in the basics as well as the ability to understand and implement updates and changes going forward.
