Publisher's Synopsis

In the year 2010, 70 years have passed since the Second World War that began on May 10. On May 5, 1945, peace finally came, and the war ended in the Netherlands. This is the reason the author chose to describe what he remembers now. He was born in February 1937. During the latter part of the war, he was a boy around six to eight years old. It was an exciting time for him. He was always hungry, always cold. Surviving was an art in itself. Twenty-four memories put in narrative form describe the experiences of a small boy during the war. This book would make an excellent educational gift for similarly aged children. It is sad that millions of children are still experiencing the horrors of war. Jan Bakker was born on February 6, 1937 in Schiedam. After school, he joined the advertising industry. In the evenings, he attended the Academy BK Rotterdam for training in Publicity and his later studies in Communication and Marketing. What followed was a professional career in Siemens and Philips. The author moved to Harmelen in 1973. For fifteen years, he campaigned for the preservation of the environment of the village.
